What is Tenoric

This drug constitutes a generic name Atenolol and Chlorthalidone which is a combination medicine mainly prescribed for the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure. Atenolol belongs to a class of beta-blocker drug that affects the heart and the blood circulation through arteries and veins. The second active component Chlorthalidone is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that prevents the body from absorbing too much salt thereby maintains the fluid balance in your body. It is sold under various trade names including Tenoretic and Tenoric (made by IPC). This drug is also prescribed for other treatments which are not listed here.

Important information about Tenoric

You should not consider this medicine, if you have known allergy to this drug, or if you are unable to urinate. Also, do not take this medicine if you have serious heart problem (heart failure or slow heart rate) and if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. Things to avoid

Avoid the hot weather conditions, and the exercise which leads you overheated and dehydrated. Limit the consumption of alcohol. Follow your doctor’s direction about what type of regimen you should take and what fluids you should drink. It may increase the potassium level in your body. Avoid the intake of potassium supplements or regular use of salt substitutes during the medicinal treatment with this medicine. 

Side Effects

The common side effects caused by this drug are dizziness, swelling in ankles or feet, light headedness and flushing. If these effects persist or deteriorate, seek medical attention or contact your doctor immediately. It may reduce the blood supply to hands and feet and allows them to go cold. This effect may devastate from smoking.  Chlorthalidone present in this medicine may cause your body to lose much water, salt and minerals which can results into muscle cramp, dry mouth, extreme thirst, weakness, irregular heartbeat and confusion. In such conditions, consult your doctor right away. Some serious side effects are seizures, very slow heartbeat, fainting, breathing trouble, joint pain, mood changes, depression, blue finger/toes, and many others.

Interaction with other drugs

Many other drugs may interact with Atenolol and Chlorothiazide, inform your doctor in advance about the other medicines and related products that you are using. The product like (OTC vitamin pills or other medicines, or herbal products), especially other blood pressure medicines, digoxin, dobutamine, indomethacin, isoproterenol, lithium, diabetes medicines, heart rhythm medicines, other diuretics, or steroidal medicines may interact with this drug and cause serious effects.
