This drug constitutes a generic name Glimepiride, is an oral medication for the treatment of diabetes. It keeps blood sugar level in check and helps your body to respond efficiently to insulin released by the pancreas. Medication treatment of Glimepiride is prescribed along with a regimented diet and exercise routine to obtain the maximum benefits. It is generally recommended to properly control type2 diabetes. Interaction with other drugs

 

Notify your doctor if you are taking other medicines like albuterol; clonidine; resperine; beta blockers like carvedilol, labetalol, atenolol, or others, before taking Glimepiride as they can interact with it. You may get hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), if you use any of these following medicines: diuretics; isoniazid; steroids; birth control pills and other hormones; diet pills or medicines to treat asthma, colds or allergies; thyroid medicine; niacin; or phenothiazines.

You may get hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) if you take Glimepiride with these medications: exenatide; some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; aspirin or other salicylates; exenatide; sulfa drugs; a monoamine oxidase inhibitor; other oral diabetes medications like acarbose, metformin, miglitol, rosiglitazone or others. The above mentioned lists of drugs which can interact with Glimepiride are non exhaustive and there may be some other drugs which interrupt the functioning of Glimepiride thereby increasing or reducing its effects of lowering your blood sugar level. Inform your doctor about all medications which you are using prescribed or OTC or herbal products, before taking Glimepiride. Never start taking a new medicine without your doctor’s advice.
