DROTIN is an antispasmodic and muscle relaxant that is used to smooth muscle spasms and reduces pain. The conditions in which this medicine is prescribed include Ureterolithiasis, Biliary spasm, Cholecystolithiasis, Stone formation, Papillitis, Cystitis, Urinary spasm, Nephrolithiasis, Vesical tenesmus and muscle spasm.

DROTIN due to its spasmolytic and vasodilating action works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase in the body. Regular intake of this medicine might be used to treat dysfunction and pain caused by smooth muscle spasms.

Drotaverine belongs to the drug category called antispasmodics. Regular intake of this medicine decreases the tone of smooth muscles, dilates blood vessels and reduces intestinal peristalsis.

Dosage information

Prescribed dosage of the medicine is of 120-240 mg daily, however the doctor would decide on this looking at the overall condition of patient and considering factors such as age, health and past medical history.

What if you miss a dose?

Correct dosage needs to be taken at regular intervals as instructed by the doctor. In case, you miss a dose you can take it as soon as you remember just make sure that the time to next dose is not close.

What if you overdose?

Do not add or reduce the dose without consulting your doctor. In case, you overdose get in touch with your doctor, local pharmacist or poison center immediately.

Things to be taken care of

There are certain conditions in which intake of DROTIN is strictly contradicted, these are Cardiac insufficiency, Hepatic insufficiency and Renal insufficiency. Patients with gastric disorders should inform their doctor before taking this medicine. If allergic to Drotaverine or any other components present in this medicine notify your doctor about the same. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding your child as this might harm the baby. Also, inform your doctor if trying to conceive so that he or she could prescribe you an alternative medicine.

Interaction with other drugs

DROTIN might interact with Phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as papaverine. Avoid using any herbal products or multivitamins or even an antacid with this medicine as these might interfere in absorption bringing down efficacy of the drug. In case you have undergone a surgery lately, notify the doctor about the medicines you talk before you start with the course of DROTIN.
