This drug has a generic name Verapamil which belongs to a
family of drugs called calcium channel blockers. This drug relaxes the muscle
of your heart and blood vessels and helps you in the blood circulation.
Verapamil is basically prescribed for the treatment of hypertension or high
blood pressure, angina (chest pain) and certain types of heart complications.
This drug may be used for other purposes that are not listed here. It is sold
under various trade names including Calan and Calaptin (made by HOECHST).
Important
information about Verapamil-
Prohibit the use of Verapamil (Calan and Calaptin), if you
have any known allergy to it, or if you have certain conditions like ‘sick
sinus syndrome’ or ‘AV Block’ (unless you have a pacemaker), hypotension (low
blood pressure) or if you have had a heart attack recently. High blood pressure

cancer medicines, cholesterol lowering drugs, heart rhythm medicines, HIV
