Augmentin is used to treat various bacterial infections such as strep throat, urinary tract infections, sinusitis and bronchitis.

How it works?

The constituents present in this medicine fight bacterial infections in the body and attack the ones that are resistant to penicillin even. Thus both the ingredients in combination helo combat the bacterial infections completely.

Important information about Medicine

Amoxicillin and Cluvanate Potassium belong to the class of beta-lactamase inhibitors. Amoxicillin belongs to the category of penicillin whereas cluvanate potassium is a type of cluvalanic acid.  

Dosage information

Take the dosage exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The tablet needs to be swallowed, do not bite or chew it. Take this medicine before your meals to avoid stomach pain or upset. Take this medicine with water.

Augmentin 875 is available in the strength of 125mg.

What if you miss a dose?

Take the medicine at same time daily. In case, you miss a dose take it quickly, just make sure that the time to next dose should not be close.

What if you overdose?

Do not alter the dose as it could put your health in serious risks and even prove fatal. In case, you take multiple doses by mistake, call up the nearby poison center or medical emergency center for help.

Things to be taken care of

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to cluvalante potassium or amoxicillin. If allergic to any other penicillin antibiotic inform your doctor before taking this medicine. If suffering from mononucleosis or kidney problems notify your doctor about the medicine history in detail. If you have liver related problems do not take this medicine unless instructed by the doctor. Do not use this medicine if pregnant or nursing as the medicine might cause harm to the baby. If on a birth control pill, stop its intake while taking Augmentin as this will help the medicine absorb fast.

Side Effects

If you notice any of these symptoms, rush to your doctor for help:

§  Watery or bloody diarrhea

§  Pale or yellow skin

§  Skin bruising, rashes, itching or even peeling

§  Swelling on face or tongue

§  Burning sensation in eyes

§  Pain on skin followed by red or purple patches

§  Vaginal infections or irritation

§  White patches in mouth

§  Convulsions

Any of these symptoms could lead to severe infections and medical conditions, thus doctor’s intervention is strongly recommended.

Interaction with other drugs

It has been found that Augmentin might interact with drugs such as allopurinol, warfarin and probenecid. Inform your doctor if taking any herbal, vitamin or dietary supplement as the ingredients present in these might bring down the efficiency of this medicine. Make sure that you do not start with a new medicine while on Augmentin.
