IRINOTEL 100mg

IRINOTEL is prescribed in rectal and colon cancer, either alone or in combination with other anti cancer drugs.

How it works?

This medicine works by stopping the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.  This medicine interrupts with the reproduction of cancer cells growth mechanism and this is what stops the infection from spreading in the body.

Important information about Medicine

Irinotecan injections are used to treat gastric cancer, cervical cancer and tumors. This medicine in used with cisplatin to treat small and non small cell lung cancer.

Dosage information

Doctor will decide on the dosage and adjust it from as low as 50mg/m² to as high as 150mg.m².  Factors that are considered when deciding on the dosage are spread of infection, tolerance of the patient and overall condition of the patient.

IRINOTEL is available in the strength of 100mg.

What if you miss a dose?

As this anti cancer drug is administered on need basis chances of missing the dose are minimal, however, it still the dose gets missed one needs to notify the care giver about this immediately.

What if you overdose?

Overdose is impossible; still, one needs to ensure that the prescribed dosage is taken.

Things to be taken care of

IRINOTEL should not be taken by someone who is allergic to its constituents. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breast feeding you should not take this medicine as it might cause harm to the baby. People with diseases and health issues such as inflammatory bowel disease, severe hepatic impairment, bowel obstruction and other kidney or liver diseases should not take this medicine.

Side Effects

Some side effects that might bother you when the IRINOTEL injection is administered, these are:

§  Diarrhoea

§  Asthenia

§  Vomiting

§  Neutropenia

§  Thrombocytopenia

§  acute cholinergic syndrome

§  Upset stomach

§  Alopecia

§  Infections

§  Nausea

§  Mouth irritation

§  Cough

§  Feeling tired or weak

In case, you notice swelling on lips or face or feel that your body is becoming weak, talk to your doctor immediately. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects tend to bother you and seek complete medical assistance without any delay.

Interaction with other drugs

Some medicines are not safe to be taken with this anti cancer drug thus one should avoid starting any new medicine till the course completes. Make sure that you inform your doctor about your past medical history, any allergies that you are prone to and do not take the restricted food items.

Avoid taking alcohol when on IRINOTEL. In case you are using any antacid or any herbal supplement, inform your doctor about this and try and avoid taking these during the course as these might prevent the anti cancer drug from getting absorbed in the body or might slower this process.
