Alevo is an antibiotic
used to treat bacterial infections of skin, kidneys, sinuses, prostate and
bladder.
How
it works?
The constituents excreted
by this antibiotic exert antibacterial action by inhibiting the bacterial
topoisomerase IV. As these enzymes are required by the bacteria to replicate,
transcript and repair, this activity kills the bacteria. This medicine works on
both gram negative and gram positive bacteria.

Levofloxacin is a
synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the fluoroquinolone class. This medicine
is used to treat severe and life threatening bacterial infections on which the
other antibiotics have failed to respond.
Dosage
information
In adults, the prescribed
dosage is of 500mg once a day for 10 to 14 days. Let the doctor decide on the
dosage and length of the course looking at the type of infection and its
severity.

What
if you miss a dose?
Do not miss any dose of
this antibiotic. In case, you miss one, take it immediately ensuring that the
time to take the next dose is not close.

Safety and effectiveness
of this medicine has not been establishes in kids, thus this medicine is not
recommended for children. For lactating and pregnant women it becomes
imperative to consult the doctor before taking this antibiotic. If trying to
conceive, discuss this with your doctor before you start taking Alevo. This
medicine needs to be taken empty stomach or at least 2 hours before or after
the meal. Ensure that you take in a good amount of liquids with the medicine.

No severe adverse affects
of the medicine have been reported so far, the mild to moderate ones include:

Interaction
with other drugs
Dietary supplements,
ferrous sulphate and didanosine are the element that could bring down the
absorption rate considerably. If taking corticosteroids do not take this
medicine as this could lead to tendon rupture. If taking an antacid that
contains magnesium and aluminum, stop the intake while taking this medicine as
these could interfere in the absorption. Do not take this medicine if you are
on an anti-diabetic drug as this could alter the glucose levels in the body.
