Dosage information

Take the extended release of metronidazole tablet (Flagyl ER) on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking the meal. Other less serious side effects are stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, loss of balance, vaginal itching and discharge, dryness in mouth or unsavory and hard metallic taste, cough, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, soreness and swelling in tongue.

Interaction with other drugs

Many other drugs can interact with Metronidazole, you should inform your doctor know if you are taking the following medicines: (prescribed, OTC vitamin pills or herbal products), especially cimetidine (Tagamet), phenytoin (Dilantin), Phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton), warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven), lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others), or disulfiram (Antabuse).  Always consult your doctor about starting a new medication.
