Lamivir - 100 mg
This drug has a generic name Lamivudine
that prevents multiplying of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis B
virus in the body. It is generally prescribed for the treatment of HIV/ AIDs.
Lamivudine will however, not provide cure for HIV. It is sold under several
trade names including Epivir and Lamivir (made by Cipla).
Important information
about LamivudineDon’t take Lamivudine HIV/AIDS
medication (Epivir, Lamivir) if you have any
known allergy to it or any
other ingredients present in it. Inform your doctor beforehand if you have
kidney or liver disease, a history of pancreatitis, or if have used a similar
medicine (similar to Lamivudine) in the past like abacavir, didanosine,
emtricitabine, stavudine, or zidovudine. Also, avoid taking this medicine if
you are already taking HIV medicine which contains Lamivudine or Emtricitabine.
Lactic
acidosis has been observed in some people who took Lamivudine (Epivir,
Lamivir). The initial stage symptoms of lactic acidosis may deteriorate over
the time and can prove fatal. You must seek medical care immediately when you
encounter the first sign of lactic acidosis such as muscle pain or weakness, breathing
trouble, numb or cold feeling in the limbs, stomach pain, or nausea with
vomiting. It can also cause severe damage to your liver or pancreas. Get
medical attention quickly if you have any of the following conditions of liver
damage or pancreas damage: sever pain in upper stomach which advances to the
back, nausea and vomiting, fast heartbeats, itching, loss of appetite, dark
urine, clay colored stools, or jaundice.
It
belongs to FDA pregnancy category C drug. It is not known whether this drug can
harm an unborn baby if taken during the pregnancy time. However, HIV can be
passed into the baby if mother is not treated safely during pregnancy. Avoid
taking this medicine if you are breast feeding and HIV positive women. You must
inform your doctor in advance about pregnancy or any plan to become pregnant.
Before taking Lamivudine
Before
taking Lamivudine, take care of all the above mentioned precautions. Discuss

Dosage information
Take Lamivudine exactly as your

In case of overdose, get
emergency medical help or call your doctor immediately.
Things to avoid- This
drug could not safe your body from HIV. It will prevent the growth of
multiplication of virus. Chances of spreading the virus still remain same
through infected razors, needles or toothbrush, unprotected sex. Hence, avoid
such activities and things.
Side effects
Some common side effects
pertaining to this medicine are nausea, headache, vomiting, dizziness,
drowsiness, or diarrhea. If these effects persist or deteriorate, seek medical
attention or contact your doctor immediately. Some patients may feel deterioration
of previous medical condition as they experience the recovery, or develop new
condition due to overactive immune system. These are not the comprehensive list
of all side effects. You may be experience some others as well. Inform your

Interaction with other
drugs- Many other drugs can interact with Lamivudine including
interferons (Intron, Betaseron,
Avonex, Rebif, Extavia,
