ITRANOX is an anti fungal medicine used to treat fungal infections in mouth, lungs, nails, throats and other body organs.

How it works?

ITRANOX works by inhibiting the CYP-450-dependent synthesis of ergosterol, which is a crucial component for the fungal cell membranes, thus restricting the growth of fungal infections.

Important information about Itraconazole

Known with the generic name of Itraconazole, this medicine is used to treat blastomycosis, aspergillosis and onychomysis. Manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals India, this medine is sold under the brand name of Sporanox.

This medicine is also prescribed as an alternative to fluconazole for preventing advanced HIV and Cryptococcus in adults. The medicine might take time to show results, make sure that you continue taking it else the signs and symptoms of fungal infections would return.

Dosage information

Available in the pharmaceutical form of capsules, one needs to take two capsules a day or as directed by your doctor with food. Take the medicine regularly to clear up all the infection. Do not take the medicine after taking an anti acid or if you have taken an anti acid wait for at least 2 to 3 hours before taking the medicine.

What if you miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If the time for the next dose is near forget the missed one and follow the schedule.

What if you overdose?

In case, you overdose, visit your doctor immediately or get in touch with the local poison center.

Things to be taken care of

ITRANOX is not to be taken along with the medicines that tend to break down in the liver as this could lead to irregular heart beats or uncontrolled diabetes. If taking terfanadine, dofetilide, astemizole or pimozide, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Do not take this medicine without notifying your doctor about the health issues that you are suffering from.

For anyone who is suffering from a heart disease this medicine is strictly not recommended. For women, who are pregnant or planning to become one should not take this medicine without consulting the doctor.

Side Effects

Some common side effects that would occur while taking this medicine include vomiting, nausea, gas, headache, sinus infection, dizziness and diarrhea. In case, any of these symptoms persist the doctor needs to be consulted immediately.

If you notice loss of breath, loss of appetite, swelling in hands or feet, yellow discoloration of the skin, pale stools or dark urine, stop the intake and report the condition to your doctor.
