INTAXEL
260mg
Intaxel is
prescribed for patients undergoing chemotherapy. The conditions in which this
anti cancer drug is prescribed include ovarian cancer, breast cancer and
advanced non small cell lung cancer.
How
it works?
This medicine belongs to
the class of anti microtubule agents and it works by stopping the growth and
spread of cancer cells in the body.
Important
information about Medicine
Paclitaxel is used in
combination with other chemotherapeutic agents to treat different types of
cancer such as that of ovaries, breast, lungs, pancreas and blood vessels. This
medicine is also used to treat the patients that have not shown any response to
anthracycline based therapies.
Dosage
information
In both adults and
elderly the dosage that needs to be given is of 100-260 mg/m2 given over 30
minutes-24 hr, repeated every 2 or 3 weeks. Proper instructions need to be
followed and one needs to take the dosage of time.

What
if you miss a dose?
Not even a single dose of
this medicine is to be missed, try and follow a routine as this would prevent
skipping the dosage.
What
if you overdose?
In case, you overdose
report this to your doctor and if you notice symptoms such as vomiting,
dizziness or loss of concentration rush to the closest medical emergency
center.
Things
to be taken care of
This medicine should not
be taken by the:
§ People who are allergic
to paclitaxel or other taxanes
§ Ones with leukocytes or
low blood counts of neutrophils
§ Ones with severe
infections
§ People with Kaposi’s
sarcoma
§ People with low platelet
count
§ Females who are pregnant,
trying to get pregnant or breast feeding

to any medicine, ensure that you report this to the doctor before taking this
medicine.
Side
Effects
Some side effects that
have been reported with the intake of Intaxel are:
§ Nausea
§ Constipation
§ Vomiting
§ inflammation or sores of the
inside area of mouth
§ diarrhea
§ low production of blood
cells in bone marrow leading to lack of neutrophils
§ low production of white
blood cells leading to viral or fungal infection
§ injection site reaction
like swelling
§ muscle or joint pain
§ infection of lungs or
urinary tract
§ feeling of
light-headedness
Without considering the
severity of these symptom report these to your doctor immediately.
Interaction
with other drugs
This medicine should not
be taken with cisplatin, CYP2C8 inducers, CYP2C8 inhibitors, CYP3A4 inducers,
CYP3A4 inhibitors as this could lead to sever interactions. Do not take Intaxin
with anthracyclin, cardiac glycosides or any other drugs without informing the
doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine as this could lead to severe interactions
and might bring down the efficiency of this medicine to a certain extent.
