Cefuroxime Axetil is a cephalosporin antibiotic that is recommended for indications such as uncomplicated gonorrhea, otitis media, meningitis and renal impairment.

Dosage information

Recommended dosage of this medicine is an adult ranges from 125gm to 3mg daily in divided doses. The doctor will decide on the dosage depending on the severity of infection and condition of the patient.

Strengths available

Cetil is available in three strengths 125mg, 250mg and 500mg.

What if you miss a dose?

Do not miss any dose of this antibiotic. In case, you miss one get it as soon as you remember. Always maintain a time gap of 8 to 10 hours between two doses. The medicine needs to be taken with food.

What if you overdose?

Never take multiple doses at a time as this could prove fatal. In case you overdose, contact your nearby medical assistance center or poison center for help.

Things to be taken care of

For anyone who is hypersensitive to cephalosporin should not take this medicine. Always complete the full course as directed by the doctor. If suffering from diabetes or have a past treatment history for liver or kidney problems, report this to the doctor before taking Cefil. People who are already taking any medicine need to tell this to the doctor before he or she prescribes Cefil. Pregnant and lactating mothers should not take this medicine unless instructed by the health care practitioner. While taking this medicine monitor your blood sugar levels regularly. Avoid long term use as this might lead to secondary infections.

Side Effects

Possible side effects that tend to bother few and not all patients with the intake of Cefil are:

§  Blood in urine or pain while urinating

§  Seizures

§  Loss of appetite

§  Numbness and tingling

§  Stomach pain

§  Drowsiness

Interaction with other drugs

Cefil might interact with probenecid, aminoglycosides and furosimide. If taking any medicine that contains any of these constituents, do not take this medicine without consulting your doctor. Do not start with any new medicine while taking Cefil as this might interfere in the working on this antibiotic.
