ALTHROCIN 500mg 

Althrocin is an antibiotic that is used to treat infection of the respiratory tract and conditions such as diphtheria, pertussis, bronchitis and legionnaires disease.

Althrocin slows down the protein break down by fastening the 50S ribosomal subunit and as a result of this jams down the translocation reactions. Due to this the cell development is completely stopped and the bacteria are not able to grow and thus die.

Erythromycine is an antibiotic that is administered to the people who are allergic to penicillin. It is used to deal with the infectivity caused by bacteria such as rheumatic fever.

Dosage information

Prescribed dosage for an adult is of 250mg every six hours; however the doctor would decide on this looking into the overall condition of the patient. The medicine needs to be taken before meals along with lots of water.

ALTHROCIN is available in two strengths 250mg and 500mg.

What if you miss a dose?

In case, you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Try to ensure that do not miss any dose so that the infection could be treated completely.

What if you overdose?

Never take more than the prescribed dosage as the result could be fatal. In case, you take multiple doses, inform your nearby medical emergency number or the poison center.

Things to be taken care of

People who are sensitive to astemizole or terfendine or the ones who are hypersensitive need to inform the doctor before taking this medicine. Although this medicine falls in the pregnancy category B, still one needs to notify the doctor about ones pregnancy or lactating state before taking this medicine. If you are trying to conceive, take this medicine only if recommended by the doctor.

Patients with the history of liver disease, heart problems, stomach infections and kidney problems should exercise complete caution. Make sure that you do not exceed length of the course as this could lead to muscle weakness, especially in the patients suffering from myasthenia gravis.

Side Effects

Being an antibiotic, Althrocin too has some side effects, the possible ones include:

§  Stomach cramps

§  Loss of appetite

Interaction with other drugs

Please tell your doctor if taking pimozide, cisapride, astemizole, statins or protease inhibitors as these might interact with Althrocin. If taking oral contraceptives or sedatives, report this to your doctor before you start taking this medicine. If taking any herbal medicine or a supplement, inform your doctor about this too to prevent any interactions from occurring.
